The series 2 had a few changes such as a revised turbocharger with a larger compressor running increased boost, and an improved fuel injection system with Digital Ignition Timing Control which pushed the power to 177 bhp. In 1982, the series 2 924 Turbo was launched, like the one we have here today. Using a KKK turbocharger and a modified cylinder head mated to the revised 2.0 litre bottom end, the power was pushed to 170 bhp getting close to the much more expensive 911 SC. It was in 1979 that things got more interesting with the release of the 924 Turbo. Next on the upgrade list was a five-speed gearbox, followed by a three-speed automatic option. Once launched, the 924 was developed quickly. The 924 was a huge success from the off, and in the second year they sold more than 25,000 units. Using a transaxle rear-wheel drive with a VW 2.0 litre engine, the power may have been quite low by Porsche standards but this was to become the perfect entry level Porsche at a time of need. Designed by Dutch designer Haam Lagaay, a member of the Porsche design team, he designed the 2+2 coupe to be practical and agile.
